IP Transit

Manage customer IP transit services in FluxBilling: review BGP sessions, assign switch ports, track P95 traffic, and bill committed-rate overages.

What the IP Transit page is for

The IP Transit page is where you manage upstream/downstream bandwidth services sold to your customers. Each row represents one customer transit service and brings together its BGP session, its switch port assignment, its committed bandwidth commitment, and its measured traffic and usage-based billing. From here you review session health, link a service to a physical switch port, and inspect the metered billing periods that drive overage charges.

How to reach it

Open the admin panel sidebar and click IP Transit (the up-and-down arrows icon). The page is available when the IP Transit feature is enabled and your role has permission to view it. Transit services appear here automatically once a customer orders a product configured as an IP Transit product.

Reading the page

KPI tiles

Four summary tiles run across the top:

Committed BandwidthThe summed committed data rate of all services, shown in Mbps or Gbps depending on magnitude.
Assigned PortsHow many services are linked to a physical switch port.

Search and filter

Use the Search services, clients… box to find a service by client name or product, and the status dropdown to narrow the list. The status dropdown offers All Status, Active, Suspended, Pending, and Terminated. The refresh icon in the top-right reloads the tiles and the table.

Table columns

ColumnShows
ClientCustomer name and email. Click the name to jump to the client's profile.
ProductThe transit product name, with its port speed and direction underneath.
StatusA colored pill: Active (green), Suspended (amber), Pending (blue), Terminated (red).
BGPA colored pill for the session state — Not Configured (grey), Configured (blue), Active (green), Down (red), or Idle (amber). The customer ASN appears below the pill once set.
PortThe switch hostname and port name if assigned, otherwise Unassigned.
BandwidthCurrent inbound / outbound rate (cyan = in, purple = out).
ActionsA view-details (eye) button, and either an assign-port or unassign-port button depending on whether a port is linked.

If there are no services, the table shows No transit services found. The pagination bar at the bottom lets you Show 25 / 50 / 100 entries and step through pages.

Assigning a switch port

Linking a service to a physical port lets the platform poll traffic and tie billing to a real interface.

  1. On an unassigned service row, click the Assign Port (link) button in the Actions column. The Assign Switch Port dialog opens.
  2. Pick a device from the Switch dropdown. It lists your network devices by hostname and management IP.
  3. Choose a port from the Port dropdown. Only ports not already connected to another server, blade, or service appear, each labeled with its name, speed, and up/down status. If a switch has none free you'll see No unassigned ports available on this switch.
  4. Optionally enter a VLAN ID (optional) between 1 and 4094.
  5. Click Assign Port. The dialog closes and the row now shows the switch and port.

To move a service to a different port, unassign it first (the assign dialog only offers currently free ports).

Unassigning a port

To release a port, click the Unassign Port (plug) button on an assigned row, or open the service and use the Unassign button on its Port tab. Confirm the prompt and the switch port association is removed, freeing it for reuse.

Click the eye icon on any row to open the service. Its header shows the product, customer, status, and a BGP badge, and it has four tabs.

BGP Config tab

This is where you record the session parameters for a customer's peering. The Provider ASN shown at the top is read-only and comes from the product configuration. The editable fields are:

BGP StatusManually set the session state: Not Configured, Configured, Active, Down, or Idle. This drives the colored pill and the Active BGP Sessions tile.
Peer IPv4 / Peer IPv6Your side's peering addresses.
Customer IPv4 / Customer IPv6The customer's peering addresses.
Route TypeWhat you advertise to the customer: Full Table, Default Route Only, Partial Table, or Custom Communities.
Prefix LimitMaximum number of prefixes accepted from the customer (defaults to 100).
BGP CommunitiesComma-separated community strings, e.g. 65001:100, 65001:200.
MD5 PasswordOptional session authentication password (hidden input).
IRR / AS-SETThe customer's routing registry AS-SET, e.g. AS-EXAMPLE.

Click Save BGP Config to store the values.

These fields are a record of the session you configure on your own router — saving them here does not push configuration to network hardware. Set BGP Status to Active only once the session is genuinely established, since the dashboard counts it.

Port tab

Shows the current port assignment (switch, port, and VLAN) with an Unassign button, or a notice that no port is assigned. Below that, a Product Specifications panel lists the service's Port Speed, Committed Rate, and Burst Rate as defined on the product.

Traffic tab

A traffic graph of inbound (cyan) and outbound (purple) rates with P95, Max, and Avg figures above it. Switch the time window with the 6H / 24H / 7D / 30D buttons. A dashed amber line marks the committed data rate (CDR) so you can see at a glance when traffic exceeds the commitment. If no samples have been collected yet the chart shows a no-data message.

Billing tab

The top of this tab shows the Current Inbound and Current Outbound rates, followed by a Billing Configuration summary (Model, Direction, Overage Rate) inherited from the product. Beneath it, the Billing Periods table lists each calculated period:

OverageCharge above the commitment, in your currency, when usage exceeds the CDR.
SamplesHow many measurements went into the calculation.
InvoiceA link to the generated invoice, Pending if an overage is awaiting billing, or a dash.

If usage measurement hasn't run yet, you'll see No billing periods calculated yet.

Transit usage billing is separate from the standard service renewal cycle. A transit service can issue an additional usage-based line item based on measured bandwidth, on top of its recurring commitment.

Tips and notes

  • The Committed Bandwidth tile and the CDR line both come from the committed rate set on the product, so configure transit products carefully — see Products.
  • Traffic graphs and billing periods only populate once the service has a port assigned and samples have been collected; assign a port early.
  • The port dropdown only lists genuinely free ports. Keep your switch inventory current under Inventory so the right ports show up.
  • The BGP status pill reflects the value you set manually — it is your operational record, not a live router poll.
